Now, in order to run Joomla!, you need not only a web server, but also 2 more things: PHP script interpreter and MySQL database system. It sounds complicated but thankfully, there is a single package called XAMPP with all the elements included. Let’s install XAMPP on your computer. This tutorial will walk you through installing Joomla locally, on a Mac. We're going to use. If not, click on the 'Open start page' in the MAMP window.
Keywords: Joomla - OS X - Technical issue - OtherDescription:HiI have previously (happily) used Bitnami mampstack and Joomla! Module to establish a backup of my website on my localhost Mac.It would seem now that this is not possible, ie no Joomla! Module And I would seemingly be best served by using Joomla! Stack (OSX VM 64 bit (I am thankful for the 64 bit!). And presumably I can back this up with time machine.I ask a few questions below. The instructions given in don’t seem relevant for installing Joomlastack on Mac OS X (No welcome screen on installation, just drag the app into Applications folder).I have done the following.Downloaded Joomla! Hi,Thanks for using Bitnami. We are using a new OS X virtual machine for latests Joomla releases so it runs in an isolated way from the rest of the processes of your OS X machine.

You can get more information about this virtual machine in the link belowOnce you connect to that virtual machine using the manager window by clicking the 'Open Terminal' button, you will find the bitnami installation under the /opt/bitnami directory as stated in our guide.Could you please indicate how I can access phpmyadmin please, so I can set up database etc?In the mentioned manager you will find a 'Network' tab. If you enable the redirections as shown in the image below (please note I used MediaWiki as an example, but it will be the same for Joomla), you must be able to access phpMyAdmin at. The bitnami folder also has a file 'manager-linux-x64.run' - is this supposed to be in the OS X version?Do not modify the mounted volume directly. Please modify the installation using the terminal connection instead. You can get the services status and start/stop/restart them using the commands belowsudo /opt/bitnami/ctlscript.sh stopsudo /opt/bitnami/ctlscript.sh startsudo /opt/bitnami/ctlscript.sh restart# It is also possible to control individual services as well. As an example:sudo /opt/bitnami/ctlscript.sh restart apacheQ. Most importantly, are there instructions for importing other local htdocs and databases into this new virtual environment?

This is important if I want to update php etc, and then import my old website. This is what I want to do now.We currently do not have any guide regarding this for Joomla, but we will work on that. Thanks for the info You can copy the Joomla folders to the new installation and do a backup and restore of the MySQL database as explained in the guide belowThanks for the info about the broken links, we will notify our documentation team about it.Best regards,Gonzalo. Hi, thanks very much againI think the person in that other post was happy to be starting an application from scratch and had trouble finding htdocs. Hi,The Joomla app files are in the /opt/bitnami/apps/joomla/htdocs directory of the virtual machine, not in your own disk As I mentioned previously, you need to SSH connect to the virtual machine using the 'Open Terminal' button in the virtual machine manager window. Once you connect, you can use the guide below to upload files using FileZilla or Cyberdunk among othersThe Joomla app files are owned by the user bitnami, so please use this user when connecting to the virtual machine using the SFTP tool of your preference.Hope it helps,Gonzalo.
Thanks once againAll seems good now (famous last words??).You corrected me, and after more research, all is OK with my understanding of Bitnami Joomla!
